Voice Over IP

Phone service, as we know it has changed much over the last several years.  Voice over IP has become a method of utilizing Internet providers for phone service.  As some of you may be considering changing your traditional phone services, we would like to take this opportunity to review the needs your security/fire system has for transmission of signals via a phone line.

While offering certain features as well as cost savings, VoIP may not be as reliable as standard telephone service, and may not be compatible with the alarm system.  VoIP cannot identify 911 calls, and may actually interfere with the timely and appropriate response that we provide in the event of a dispatch.  Please remember that traditional phone service will continue to operate during a power failure, where it is unlikely that VoIP will.

We do not service VoIP, and at this time, industry experts have noted problems with relying on cable and Internet providers to service phone service issues.  At this time we require you to maintain traditional phone service in your residence or business for alarm monitoring purposes.  If you plan to install VoIP as your primary service, we require that you maintain a standard telephone line for alarm services.  In our effort to provide the best services to our customers, we will keep you updated as technology in this arena changes.
